Adoption and Facebook

How appropriate that the Alliance for the Study of Adoption and Culture should publicise their forthcomming conference on Facebook. That and other social networking sites seem to be the method du jour for children and adults to circumvent social workers’ attempts to control who is in contact with whom. I guess the official Adoption Register may be starting to look a bit antique compared to these and other more immediately accessible sites.

Anyway the the ASAC conference itself raises some very interesting questions such a:

“How should we distinguish secrecy, privacy, and confidentiality in relation to adoption? How does secrecy in adoption relate to race, economics, and sexual orientation?”

Wish I could go but the conference is in Boston USA which means the cost would be prohibitive – for me anyway.
